053: How One Good Thing can make a difference

Bridgette Lau

Sometimes it just takes one thing. One thing that we say or one thing that we do, no matter how big or small that can have an impact on someone’s lives. Our guest today is the co-founder of One Good Thing that strives to do just that. Their platform shares the best stories and most exquisite products, gadgets and gifts all with a great story and causes that it supports. One Good Thing was founded in 2017 with her husband, (Michael Cooke). It was the result of an epiphany – a diagnosis of cancer, a memorable trip to Asia, and the inherent desire to help people feel good and to do One Good Thing. Crazy birds, without any further ado, I would like to welcome, Bridgett Lau.

 The Minimalists

2.What is your hope for mama earth going forward?

I hope that everybody has the luxury to actually give some thought to the impact that they have on the world and the people in it.

3.What advise can you give our crazy birds this week to help out mama earth?

I would say, yeah that because I am starting this journey, just the idea of just thinking when you buy something, how much joy is thing going to bring to me and then assess whether or not that is something that brings you immense joy and if it does, great buy it and I want to hear about it and if it mediocre joy maybe not. Maybe just wait a few days and see if it is something that you actually want,

4.What is one sustainability fact that you like to use in a room with people not yet on a sustainability journey?

The fire hose one if my favourite, the reactions that I get from that is brilliant.  When we talk about the fact that no firehoses are going to UK landfill.

5.Where can people find you?

Key Take Away

“You can do that One Good Thing and make a difference”

We might sometimes feel that we need to save the entire world all by ourselves and that it is hard and then lose hope, however, when we look at One Good Thing, it reminds me that every single one of us can make a difference, just by doing One Good Thing at a time. Whether that is supporting one of the organisations that is part of One Good Thing’s platform or just doing something nice for someone without any expectation, every single bit helps.
